Are there any badgers in Norfolk?

I have lived in Norfolk for ten years now and have seen all manner of large mammals - foxes in Norwich, otters in the Broads, weasels and stoats in hedgerows, hares in fields and at least three species of deer. However, I have never seen a badger. Now I'm not particularly surprised by this as they are famously shy and nocturnal. However, on my travels out of Norfolk I frequently see the most obvious (and tragic) signs - corpses, left as roadkill by the side of the road. These badger corpses can be found in Suffolk, Essex, Cambs - all around Norfolk but never actually in it. On a recent stretch of road in Bucks I counted six dead badgers in only a few minutes. So, has anyone ever seen a badger - dead or alive in Norfolk and if so, why this anomaly with the roadkill?

Well, there certainly are Badgers in Norfolk, though they may not be as common as they are in other counties. I can't say why you don't see any road casualties, but I often hear people complaining about the lack of roads in the county, so perhaps that has something to do with it

Have seen about half a dozen road kills in the last year in the Aylsham-cromer-north walsham area of norfolk. Have yet to see a live one
