| | | Red squirrels in Northumberland I am hoping to go to Berwick upon Tweed and Seahouses this summer. Is there anywhere there where you can see red squirrels? |

| | | Re: Red squirrels in Northumberland The National Trusts's Wallington Hall near Morpeth is not too far from Seahouses - 40 miles, about an hour's drive. There is a hide in the grounds from which I took these shots last May...
I'm planning on looking for more red squirrels with some other WAB members on the afternoon before the Farne Islands meet in June. NicolaB mentioned Paxton House near Berwick so I think we'll be going there. The web site says it has "woodland and riverside walks with red squirrel and bird hides".
The reds are also in the area around Kielder Water. According to the web site for the Kielder Water and Forest Park (see Things to do in Kielder Water & Forest Park | Activities | Visit Kielder "The Park is also home to around 50% of England’s native red squirrel population, the last remaining stronghold in the country. The best place to catch a glimpse of one is at the red squirrel hide at Leaplish Waterside Park." (Although I can already hear the people of Formby querying that "last remaining stronghold" bit! ) Kielder has the added bonus of ospreys at Kielder Castle.

| | | Re: Red squirrels in Northumberland Hi southlonder. Just to add to what pressld2 has already said. You could try Plessey Woods country Park. about 30 miles south of Seahouses just off the A1.
Good luck.

| | | Re: Red squirrels in Northumberland From the Paxton House web site: "The No 32 ‘Paxton House Bus’ from Berwick operates daily except Sunday."
It's four miles from Berwick so depending on how fit you are it's walkable (and from what I've seen of the Northumberland countryside it would be a beautiful walk) or a taxi shouldn't set you back too much.
Kielder is further away from both Berwick and Seahouses so is probably out.

| | | Re: Red squirrels in Northumberland Look at the Red Alert website. There are maps of last year's sightings.
It is run by the wildlife trust, so I would suggest emailing them and asking for suggestions for viewing. They also run some events (but you're less likely to see them in a crowd) Save Our Squirrels : News & Events ::: GNSQ MAPS Save Our Squirrels : News & Events :::
Wallington Red Squirrel walk pdf http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main...wallington.pdf
Make sure you visit Seahouses at the right time of year for a visit to the Farne Islands.
