Bats

I saw some bats last night in the garden - in a well built up urban area Its the first time in a few years i'v seen bats. I have seen them in our garden in the past but not for a long time

They where quite big, between the size of a sparrow and starling.

High Wildherbs. Lovely seeing bats isn't it? And near a town too. Bats have much larger wings for their body size than birds do so even a pipi's wings could look almost as big as a starlings. If you could get hold of a local expert they might be able to tell you the species.
