| | | Re: Tracks id - Hope it is hedgehog? LOL, be very careful, you're on the slippery slope. I started out with one in the garden, then 6 overwintering, then 20, then 48. I still have 17 here now waiting for release.
They are incredibly messy and not just when eating. My daily routine involves cleaning out cages with poo everywhere, up the walls, in the nests, one even manages to throw it out through the cage door.
A tip to tell if it's hogs eating the biscuits, they leave tiny crumbs in the dish, or on the floor. If it's a cat or other animal normally the bowl is completely empty.
Be careful with nuts. They need to be peanut nibs or crushed up small. We've had a number of hogs in unable to eat due to a whole peanut jammed on their back teeth.
Next you'll be getting a night cam and putting it out in the garden to watch them. |

I think it's too late for me You're right there are crumbs everywhere, must eat a bit like hubby
I had to laugh when you mentioned the night cam. I would luurve a night cam, only thing that's stopping me is cost & figuring how to get electric (rented house & have already drilled a couple of big holes for dishwasher & pond electrics, well actually I could get a bigger switch box, see now look what you've done! never ending cost ) out to there, bit pink lint if you know what I mean, car's been playing up recently & it's bill after bill sigh.
Never mind, at least hedgehogs are cheaper, well a bit anyway!

| Not when you have as many in as I do.
They are messy but they really are the cutest little guys. Many times I've been sat in the hospital crying with laughter at their antics. It's just such a shame people don't realise how endangered they are becoming. We're trying to get the word out and it's slowly happening.
As far as cameras go, check out the HandyKam. It's a reasonable price and if you just get the cam without any of the boxes, you can fit it into a small box of your own and just move it round the garden, that's what we do and it works great. |

Otherwise if you type Hedgehog Bottom into Google you should find the link near the top. Still waiting for my sig to turn up on here. |

| | | Re: Tracks id - Hope it is hedgehog? A very intersting website! Thanks for the link.
I had a quick look at the sounds page.
When I have watched hedgehog courting, it is the female who huffs. Each time he tries to get behind her, she huffs and turns to face him. He was silent (although probably muttering under his breath!). This advance/ turn/ huffing went on for ages until she finally succumbed. |

| | | Re: Tracks id - Hope it is hedgehog? Yes, it is normally the female, I keep meaning to change that, I was suffering from complete word blindness when that page went up. You read what you expect to be there after doing 30 odd pages of text. I'll get that done today thanks for reminding me. If you find any other bloopers please shout. I had 4 hoggy people checking the site but I'm sure we've all missed stuff. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
