I went to find the Lesser Kestrel at Westleton Heath in Suffolk yesterday, but dipped (it seems to have been found again today).
Whilst wondering around the heath I came across 12 Red Deer - 3 stag and 9 hinds I reckon. RSPB ran a "rut watch" last year, so I suppose they're well known there? There was also a very gutsy Muntjac
These were the first Red Deer I've come across in East Anglia. Handbook of British Mammals has the EA population at ~350. Do other people see them regularly in the region?
The Fallow Deer around N Herts seem to be increasing in number - I had 3 run alongside and then across the road in front of me whilst I was cycling last week they were going 30+ mph. Lovely sight.
