Just because it's illegal doesn't mean it isn't done.
It makes me so angry people who do this, they are the vermin.

I'm assuming you're not trying to accuse me of anything are you.....really....are you?
I'm curious though, why would you question where I get my info from?
It's not really info although I have worked with people who were involved with the DEFRA campaign against illegal poisoning. It's more about living & working in the countryside & picking up experience by myself or through other peoples (whether you agree with them or not).
I'm only assuming common sense why it is easier to poison rather than to shoot. You poison to get rid of something you can't (or wont!) hunt down. I don't poison rats that become a nuisance, I get the air rifle out. I hasten to add I live rurally so neighbours aren't a problem!
In my opinion poison is put down because it's easier than sitting out night after night in the freezing cold with a shotgun, on the offchance you see a fox & after all that you may miss!
Poisoning is a horrible way for an animal to die & what's worse is that it can also affect other animals in the food chain as well. I stand by my calling people who illegally poison wildlife as the vermin.
Hope this helps answer your question

Hope this helps answer your question | No not trying to learn ! I agree poisoning is a horrible way to die , but not a method that shooters would use as it does affect other wildlife, do you personally know many shooters ! They dont mind sitting out all weathers. |

| | | Re: dog fox shot It's ok Posie, I'm obviously being misunderstood. I don't want type of thread either.
I'm having a go at the vermin who illegally poison wildlife no-one else. I actually agree, shooters wouldn't lay poison, they are crazy mad enough to enjoy sitting in the freezing cold waiting , anglers I would also put in this category as well! (father was a keen angler all his life ) My info comes from personal experience. Even though I shouldn't feel the need to, in the interests of diplomacy I will elaborate.
As it happens, yes I personally know a lot of shooters. I don't shoot, don't feel the need to, when I can get tasty supplies from friends. I also personally know townies (was brought up one), farmers, gamekepers, dog, terrier & ferret people and hunt people (this is where the, you can learn from people (info!) even though you may not agree with their views comes from). I and my husband live & work rurally in rural industry. I also worked for a v long time for DEFRA & ADAS. However, I don't stereotype people as there are good & bad people in all walks of life (I once met a not very nice minister & conversely I've met a really, really, nice slaughterman). I wont get involved in arguments either. My signature says it all about me.
WAB is a brilliant site with an even further mixture of people & I can say that I have learnt a lot from people I wouldn't normally come into contact with. Luckily, there's a few crazy ones like me in here . I hope you stay in WAB & enjoy reading & contributing to the forums as much as I do for the forseeable future .

Unfortunately Ive not seen the Vixen recently but I know she is alive and well as there are always fresh footprints and faeces on the Earth when I walk past at first light. I was really worried though a few nights ago. As I was walking home at about 9.30pm after watching some foxes at another Earth I spotted some headlights which seemed to be coming in my direction. As I was surrounded only by fields, meadows and footpaths I knew it must be the farmer or one of his associates. It was a Landrover and instead of coming towards me it turned and drove up the side of one of the fields towards where 'my' vixens Earth is. I pretty much ran until I got to the field and then turned my head torch on full beam. Whoever was in the Landrover turned it and with Headlights on full swept its beam over the field. I'd imagine they were looking for any Foxes, hopefully not 'my' fox in particular!! I carried on walking on the footpath between two fields and Id imagine they mustve seen me because they turned and went back to the farm!! As I walked past the Earth I coughed a lot in the hope that the vixen would hear me and not venture out for a while.
I havent named the Vixen. I will have to think of a name to call her. Im just hoping that the Farmer doesnt get to her. I dont normally get back from my walk til around 9.30pm now. Whenever the Farmer sees me I just get a 'grunt'. He is a very unsociable, grumpy sod. Its a shame because if he was a nice, friendly fella I would have considered going to speak to him but he gives off such an aura of unfriendlyness Im certainly not going to bother. http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/fo...milies/mad.gif | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
