| | Howcome??? With the Wallaby! Looking through the Mammal Gallery (Mighty Hazzaarrss to everyone who has posted images on there by the way!) there are so many pictures of rare, hard to photograph animals such as bats, badgers, beavers and even WILD BOAR!?!?! but I cannot find a single picture of a Wallaby.
I know they are not native to this country (yet neithers the Grey Squirrel or Muntjac, and there are plenty of photo's of them) but I am suprised that there are no pictures of them in the Gallery!
Has anybody got any photo's of them that they can possibly share, or are they really that hard to find, have anybody seen them on WAB!?!?!]
Thanks. |

| | | Re: Howcome??? With the Wallaby! I've not seen one, but it's not easy to find wild living ones. The famous Peak District colony has apparently died out.
I think the only remaining colonies are on the Isle of Man + on Inchconnachan, Loch Lomondside. |

| | | Re: Howcome??? With the Wallaby! Thats interesting about the Peak District Colony, as I never knew there was one, and suprisingly, I was there today, and never saw any!
I have also read that there is a large amount near Dartmoor? Is that true? |

| | Re: Howcome??? With the Wallaby! Hmm, So one has been spotted, but are there others? Kind of sad really, its turning into one of those Big Cat things now, the odd sighting every once and a while!
How long do wallabies live, as this may give us an indication to whether they are breeding or not!
Edit: And therefore tell us whether there is a population breeding! (End of Edit)
For example, if they were short lived and on was seen in 1995 and then another one was seen in 2010, this would suggest they are breeding! Although if they are long lived, the same one could have been spotted from 1995 and 2010. Example, not fact!
I like this though, my short question seems to have turned into a Mini-Discussion!

| | | Re: Howcome??? With the Wallaby! Some of the pictures certainly seem to be wallabies.
One word of caution when encountering strange animals out on the moors is that lots of llamas are now farmed - it wouldn't be impossible for one or more to escape ..... and their faces look much like wallabies in the right light!
It will be interesting to see if there are any wallaby reports after the hard winter. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
