| | | Garden Bat! About 4o'clock today I was very surprised to see a small bat flying around the garden in broad daylight! It was very small and did about 3 circuits of the garden and then flew off around the area. Nice sight as I believe it is pretty early for bats? |

| | | Re: Garden Bat! Nice sighting Fieldfare. I thought I saw one a week or so ago on our ONE mild night in Kent this year, but wasn't sure. However they do come out in the winter whenever the weather is mild enough. Pipi's do anyway. Don't know about the other species

| | | Re: Garden Bat! How lovely! I haven't seen any yet, but as animartco said if the weather is mild enough they will have the odd venture out.
Moonmoth, couldn't help smiling when I read what you had written - supper time!!
I'm guessing it's probably a pip, because you said it was small and I have seen the odd early pip at my local reserve. Bat detectors at the ready! I think I'll have a listen out tomorrow if the weather is mild.

| | | Re: Garden Bat! Hi everyone, sorry I've not replied, I forgot about this thread tbh!
Yes it was very small so probably a pipistrelle, going to keep my eye out for it again.
thanks for replying |

| | | Re: Garden Bat! Sounds like a Pip. At this time of year it is not all that uncommon to see bats flying during the day because after 3 months or so of hibernation, especially if they were a bit underweight at the start or woke up too many times and burned off fat reserves, they will take any opportunity they can get to grab a meal. |
