Squirrels in the garage roof

I think some squirrels are nbesting in our garage roof. We have heard scuffling sounds and seen a squirel poke its head out from under the tiles. A neighbour has seen one taking grass and going under the tiles.

I am not too happy about them being there as I understand they can cause considerable damage? But I do not want to kill them. I am contemplating my options.

Are they likely to have given birth yet?

Firstly I shall be removing the squirrel feeder that I put up in the garden this winter to attract them into the garden. It did exactly what it said on the tin. I hadn't realised they would go into the garage roof.

I have read another thread on here about music or predator sounds scaring them off.

Am I likely to be able to get rid of them without killing them/having them killed?

They can indeed do considerable damage, including posing a very serious fire risk.

A great deal depends on the construction of the garage as regards how proofable it is - they have considerable teeth and if they decide they want in, keeping them out can be a very difficult. Removing the squirrels would certainly be the most effective way of dealign with the problem.

There is a gap between the roof tiles and the uPVC gutter where the squirrel goes in and out. To me it sounds as though there is only one squirrel. I am tempted to wait until the squirrel exits then fill the hole with chicken wire.

My question is is he/she likely to be alone or are there likely to be two or even young?
