i have often seen a fox being chased out of our garden by a neighbours cat,and the fox runs like hell lol |

| | Re: How can i attract foxes to my new garden?? =Dogghound;599500]A fox did this to a dog? What was the story behind it? It is extremely uncommon for a fox to even challenge a dog let alone attack it. I would have thought in most cases a dog would quite easily out muscle a fox.[/quote]
Hi Dogghound, I did not witness the actual fight/attack between my little dog and the fox, but as I saw my dog, (only about 10 mths old and not as chunky as a pure staff, yet very fast) take chase when she saw the fox in the farmyard, and I saw him run across a paddock in the direction of where he was born and reared with her chasing him, then lost sight of them and then heard a loud painful scream, which was obviously from my dog, I would think that it is quite reasonable to make the assumption that she got the worst of a fight with a fox.She also had lots of surface bites where you could distinctly see pairs of teethmarks, which the vet said were consistant with the 'size' of fox bites.... I agree a fox probably wouldn't have attacked in other circumstances, but she didn't really give him any choice, did she, little Madam. As he ran into the area where he was born and reared there may have even been his mother or siblings there, that would be my guess, that he was a youngster, probably three quarters or so grown, but it was his Ma who sorted the dog out.So that's the story behind it.........Posie.... |

| | | Re: How can i attract foxes to my new garden?? I dont think people realize how aggressive and dangerous something like a fox can be..people actually spout out there the same size as a cat often, i dont know what foxes these people are seeing but the oens ive seen are big, between the size of a medium to small dog. Ive also seem them fight over food on TV and they are surprisingly explosive in a fight, i think because foxes are smart and like most smart and wild animals would rather run than risk it, but like all good mothers they'll probably defend there pups outright against anything.
I doubt this would ever be a common occurance but i could see it happening as a very rare situation and 999 times out of a 1000 the fox would rather run. |

| | Re: How can i attract foxes to my new garden?? Yes, and the fox did run, but my little Madam of a dog just had to chase it. I would have liked to think that she learned her lesson, but NO.. so we have an acre of garden fenced in with 6 ft chainlink for her, and she cannot go out of that without a harness and lead...Apart from that inconvenience, she's a joy to live with, very intelligent,( but not intelligent enough to leave the foxes alone) ......Posie... |

| | | Re: How can i attract foxes to my new garden?? lol thats nice. mines 21 weeks old sat, it takes quite a bit of caesar millan style training but at this point he is calm, submissive, knows a bunch of tricks and lots of commands and doesnt *really* need a lead as he follows my every command and either walks by my side of just behind me, a quick *tssst!* srts him out straight away if he trys to wonder infront. his been socialized well and likes other dogs altho one growled at him yesterday and he tensed up and growled, = not good. I try to keep him on the leed when i spot another dog because i know hwo he'll react, but i dont know how the other dog will. |

| | Re: How can i attract foxes to my new garden?? Well I actually saw them run into the area where the Fox's 'lair' is and there's no barbed wire there, then the screaming from pup, also the bite marks around her legs were definitely 'bites'......Anyway we'll never really know as it wasn't 'caught on camera', but I know what I think happened, of course you do not have to agree with me.........Posie.. |

| | | Re: How can i attract foxes to my new garden?? No I wasnt disagreeing was simply asking if you had considered other possibilities. The fact you say it went towards its den changes everything, a fox especially with young is very protective of its home. |

I have the pleasure of watching outside the entrance of her 'lair' from my armchair, through the patio window or open door, do use bins, but it's close enough to see quite a lot with the naked eye. Am looking forward to when she brings her new cubs out this year, I observed them last year from when they first came out with Mum, all the way through till they came out on their own ,3 cubs, then eventually occasionally see 2 half grown, and then each one seperate.Watched them every day.had to organise the rest of my life around it cos it is addictive, or it is with me.
