fox release after rehabilitaion

Hi All,

I have just joined this site hoping that someone may be ble to give me some information??

I am a student on an advanced national certificate in animal management and am currently doing an assignment on the issues relating to re-release of rehabilitated foxes, I need to find out a few things in order to do this and the searches i've done online don't seem to be very helpful...

If anyone has any information on any of the following, I would be very grateful ....

the time/season of release (if required)

legislation relating to release

how to find out food availability in the proposed area of release

how to find out what human threats may be present

what monitoring methods may be used after release

the success rates of rehabilitated foxes upon release

and finally the ethics of releasing foxes back into the wild

Please, I don't want public opinion on releasing foxes, just the facts about how, where and when to do it.

On the subject of foxes, Stephen Harris's book 'Urban foxes' is very informative (the new edition is with another author whos name I forget), and many of Harri's papers will proberbly be useful as his probably Britains expert on them.
The fox website (The fox website: one site with all the answers about foxes) is probably the best source on the net as it is written by the mammal group and Bristol University (where Harris works)

Also David Macdonalds " Running with the fox" and associated papers - Macdonald and the WildCRU at oxford are the other contenders fopr the "leading expert" tag along with harris's group at bristol - also worth checking out are related papers by Hans Kruuk who was macdonalds mentor

on top of that "the complete fox" by les stocker gives good info from a wildlife hospital point of view

I think an accurate picture of what happens to rehabilitated foxes is something we would all like to know.
