I'm a keen amateur photographer living in West Yorkshire, can anyone point me to a posssible site within 50ish miles of Leeds, where I might photograph
these amazing creatures?

| | | Re: Boxing Hares whilst not saying anything aganst nikonnutter , i would just mention that its an exceptionally bad idea to give specific hare locations on the internet - like badgers they come in for a lot of ilegal persecution and its well known in wildlife crime prevention circles that malefactors trawl nature websites for info.
on the whole I would suggest that if anyone s going to help NN with his request PM might be the best medium for location specific information

| | Re: Boxing Hares Thanks eeyore,
as a photographer of wildlife, it never occoured to me that anyone would want to injure/miss-treat these beutiful creatures, however I take your point.

Be prepared to explain what you are doing tho as the police opperation "migrate" is specifically aimed at preventing illegal coursers who carry out their recce in exactly the same way. Also be prepared for landowners not to grant permisssion easily without prior refferences etc for the same reason.
and finally if you do encounter coursing in progress call the police but don try to intervene or photograph the offenders as these are very violent people .

once again I am indebted to you, thanks for the tip(s) both my wife and I are familiar with the areas you suggest, perhaps the alarm clock needs to be set earlier?
kind regards,

Secondly that's some top notch advice from Pete (eeyore).
Lastly, are you a member of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust? They may be able to advise which of their reserves (and whereabouts in the reserve) are best for hares. There should also be fewer issues with access to the land although you will need to stick to the paths and hides which may not be the best places from a photographic point of view.
