As you know, Scotland is guardian to globally important populations of grey seals and common seals. 90% of the UK’s seals are in Scottish waters. Yet thousands of seals are shot every year by fish farmers, salmon netsmen and fishermen; as shown in Bonnie's Tale- the moving viral narrated by Richard Briers. The fate of seals will be decided on Thursday 4th February when a new Marine Bill will be agreed by the Scottish Parliament.

The law even allows seals to be shot during their breeding seasons, meaning that dependent pups can be left to starve to death when their mothers are killed. The vast majority of the public support a total ban on shooting seals. The Scottish Marine Bill provides a much-needed opportunity to improve legal protection for seals. Members of the Scottish Parliament are being asked to support amendments to the Marine Bill to protect the welfare and conservation of seals – particularly during their breeding seasons – at the final Stage 3 Debate on Thursday 4 February.

Advocates for Animals is urging people who care about seals to take action, to support the Look Out For Seals campaign and help prevent these beautiful animals from being shot.
