Don't worry, you won't be the last to call a mink an otter!
It was a good observation of an animal with an unusual pelt colouration. As you say, most are dark, black or chocolate brown but the ocassional variation crops up now and again. Yours looks to be very light or even silvery in the light. A "champaigne" colour was bred and I've seen a silvery blue colour.
The one thing that struck me initially was the scale of the ivy leaves against the animal. It's also got a nice pointy nose.
The powers that be have recently changed the latin name of American Mink from Mustela vison to Neovison vison. |

| | | Re: Dorset Otter I don't know what others think but the shots in the water look to me like an Otter whilst the photo's on the bank look like a Mink or even a Pole Cat. Are you sure that what came out of the water, was the same animal that re-appeard later Nigel? I really can't see that that's a Mink in the swimming shot? That animal coming down the bank looks a lot different than the Otter in the water. Wizzo
