I first assumed that this chap was a victim of the weather but then noticed that he (I'm guessing 'he' from the size) had at least one large wound to the flank. I think he may have been attacked by another predator, escaped but later died.

TBH, my first thought when I saw it in the snow was stoat.

| | | Re: Ex Weasel Its not just the tail tip. The jagged edges where the brown meets white along the body are distinctive as are the gular spots near the jawline. Impossible to say what killed it though unlikely the cold more likely the lack of food. The wound may have had something to do with it although could have happened after death. At this size it is more suggestive of a female, it looks smaller that 20cm from nose tip to tail base (could just be me). Harder to say at this time of year when testicles are retracted. |
