| | | Encouraging Hedgehogs I'd like to encourage hedgehogs to frequent or even set up home on my allotment.
I've heard it's possible to get a rescued hedgehog from a rescue centre and provide it with a home. Is this true. Where do I start and how?
I live on the coast in west Sussex. wher is my local rescue centre.
Thanks

Martin H | Hedgehogs should be encouraged into your gardens and anywhere else for that matter. It as been reported that in the next 20 years hedgehogs could be gone from our shores.
Although hedgehogs would be good for the allotment dont use them for slug controll, as slugs only make up 5% of the hedheogs diet as they prefer things like insects, beetles, catterpillers and other creepy crawlies rather than eating slugs, slugs will give hedgehogs lungworm which can be fatal to Autumn youngsters.
In the Spring when many hedgehog carers will have hedgehogs for release, I have 10 hedgehogs that will stay with me till the spring, safe release sites will be looked for and it will be possible to get hedgehogs from a carer near to you.
Visit Rons Hedgehogs - Home to find out how to encourage hedgehogs into your garden and visit Rons Hedgehogs - Carers to find a carer near to you who may be able to help you with a hedgehog or 2 in the spring. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
