| | | Re: Hedgehog Hibernation - when and how? Thankyou to both Posie and Hedge-hoggy. I was very pleased to receive your messages. I've also received a note from the Forum itself which I have tried to answer, but at almost 80 the way to answer escapes me. You will know what I'm talking about. Sorry I haven't managed to reply. | | | Re: Hedgehog Hibernation - when and how? Georgie, in my rushed post earlier, not only did I fail to read that you'd already said the hog house was filled with hay/straw , but I also forgot to suggest ringing your local wildlife hospitals/hedgehog carers to offer your garden as a release site. Good release sites are always needed, especially those with a hedgehog house already in-situ and a kind person willing to continue with support feeding
If you let me know whereabouts you are in the UK, I'll check for those nearest to you and send you the contact details. |

| | | Re: Hedgehog Hibernation - when and how? Hi Hedge-hoggy, My location is about 8 miles outside Shrewsbury, in the countryside with a field on one side with a pony and stable (a neighbours), and a field at the back which is farm land. The garden has several fruit trees and uneven meadow-like grass. The hedgehog home is against the fence, under the trees and has a waterproof protection. (I hadn't put newspaper down until tonight though, until after your kind message) The wooden "home " is 34" long plus a short entrance tunnel. I would be interested to hear of a local address needing a home for either a hedgehog or a family of them.
Thankyou. Georgie6. |

| | | Re: Hedgehog Hibernation - when and how? Georgie, I’ve sent you a private message via this forum with some local contact details.
Your garden sounds absolutely perfectly for hedgehogs, *but* it also sounds like it could be perfect badger terrain! Do you know if there are badgers in your immediate area? Unfortunately, hedgehogs can’t be released into badger territory as they regularly feature on a badger’s menu – badgers are equipped to effortlessly unfurl a hedgehog... |

| | | Re: Hedgehog Hibernation - when and how? Many thanks Hedgehoggy, I can get INTO the separate messages, but haven't discovered how to answer them. (As I said, nearly 80 - its hard to teach an old dog new tricks and all that. My late husband was the computer buff.) I appreciate your effort, thankyou. Georgie6. |

| | | Re: Hedgehog Hibernation - when and how? Posie, I have picked up a message from 2-22 Saturday, but just like I said to Hedgehoggy, sorry I don't know how to answer, except via this type of note on the forum. My daughter visits me once a week, I will have to request her help. Georgie6. |

| | Re: Hedgehog Hibernation - when and how? Don't worry about it georgie.Wait till your daughter comes and she'll show you. I write things like that down, as otherwise as my 'teacher, helper or coach' goes out the door , so does the new information go 'out the door' .Anyway I'm glad to read that hedgehoggy agrees with what I had said. about getting in touch with an established sanctuary.also about the badgers, trouble is that peanuts attract them.Anyway , even if you are in a Badger occupied area and cannot successfully keep hedgehogs free outside ,maybe you could have one for convalescence, prior to being released. The sanctuaries have hundreds of them at various stages of care requirement , so don't be disappointed if you do have badgers ,'God' works in wonderful ways and whatever happens it will be right. **POSIE** | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
