| | | Re: 2 young hedgehogs - advise please Hi Jo, sounds like you're doing a great job already All I’d like to add to the already excellent advice given is to get your mum and neighbour to keep a vigilant eye out for any more siblings. It sounds like either something may have happened to their mum, or their nest was disturbed and mum ran off, because hoglets wouldn’t generally leave their nest at that size without mum, and certainly not in daytime. Also, as you’re discovering, the larger hoglets will leave the nest first, followed by the smaller weaker ones. If you’re at all concerned about any of the hoglets, get them straight to a vet. Most vets treat wildlife for free.
Sadly, I found a dead 73g hoglet in my garden early yesterday morning next to where I leave the fox’s food. |

| | | Re: 2 young hedgehogs - advise please Very sorry for the little one who died in your garden, Hedgehoggy... It might have been specially upsetting for you who rehabilitate so many hoggies from all over your area... We can't save every one of them but we do our best because we care for ALL of them. Big hugs.

The 100g one stabbed me was good tho as my daughter was there and proved what i said that the spikes was sharp, then she said naughty hedgehog thats not good when mum is giving you food then she looked at me and said mum you should be more careful you said they was sharp
cheeky little monster lol
I now wear thick black rubber gloves when o handle them!!
just an update they have put on 5g each (the first two) all 3 have ate loads and they are snuggle up together on the heat mat fast asleep,
No ticks just a few fleas on no3 just like the first two, so i will treat them in a week if they get worse |

Thanks Marcia and Jo. I was really upset that I didn't find the poor wee mite sooner. It wasn't there when I put the fox's food out just before I went to bed and I don't know what caused its demise. It wasn't noticeably underweight, no injuries, it looked like it had just collapsed. I've been checking my garden vigilantly since then, but no sign of any siblings | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
