Is my hedgehog hibernating already?

Havnt seen my hedgehogs for 2 nights, mealyworms all still there...Is it too early for them to hibernate does anybody know, I have hedgehog boxes in the garden where they usually sleep but dont want to disturb them if they are hibernating.

Put a small piece of broken twig across the entrace to the hedgehog house. If it is still there in the morning you have two choices. Open the box and check inside ot wait until the twig is knocked over. Have you seen them using the hedgehog house?

Hi Pattie May, good idea thanks, he tends to swap boxes, Ive seen him every night for 4 months now, I could just look but I try to keep my distance..dont want to scare him off. I wonder if it is cold enough for them to hibernate.

If you check on this site and hedgehog site it does says that larger hedgehogs can hibernate as early as September or October.

I've had various hedgehogs in my garden. They have moved on for a variety of reasons. One was run over, one had lungworm and is with a carer, one has just disappeared, one is still coming (not last night) and one is in my house as he was tiny.
