| | | Re: sick fox dickybird, here are some other wildlife sanctuaries in your general area who might be worth a call:
The Sanctuary Wildlife Care Centre, Morpeth - tel: 01670 791778
Wildlife In Need Sanctuary, Alnwick - tel: 01668 5281
Creature Care Wildlife And Animal Sanctuary, Throckley - tel: 0191 264 2930 or 07944 535705
Although these centres may not be able to assist with the capture of the vixen, they may be able to help with its recovery and rehabilitation. |

| | | Re: sick fox thank you valleyforge for those numbers. ive contacted them and whilst two are unable to help(as im going to need a cage trap),the lady i spoke to at ugham(morpeth) says she'll speak to her appropriate staff tomorrow when they are back in and see what they can do. strangely enough not one person i spoke to at these centres had a good word to say about the rspca!

| | | Re: sick fox well, ive now exhausted all avenues of help for my fox.
it would seem no-one is able to help--everyone passes me onto someone else but in the end it comes down to the fact that specialist help is needed and no-one can offer that.
i will continue to feed her-when i see her-but her foot and eyes require urgent treatment.i dread to think of the slow, lingering death she's going to suffer.
i am particularly disappointed with the rspca and national fox welfare society whose voicemail is still full and therefore unobtainable.
at least ive had a response from the smaller animal welfare centres...... |

| | | Re: sick fox I can relate to your frustration ... and I'd be there to help if I could, but you are just a bit too far off my patch to make that feasible I'm afraid.
Although the NFWS call number seems to be having problems, you might try sending an e-mail to 'natfox@ntlworld.com' and giving them your telephone number ... they might just be monitoring that if their phone line is out of commission.
What's your nearest town dickybird and I'll try to find someone esle for you to contact? |

You most certainly have not exhausted all avenues of help for this animal. If you are convinced that she is going to die a slow lingering death then contact your local pest controller and arrange for her to be put down - there is nothing humane about prolonging suffering by feeding.
Nor should you be disappointed in the RSPCA response - their remit is to prevent cruelty. No one is being cruel to this animal what you are seeing would appear to be nature taking its course. It is for you to decide whether it is more humane to delay or accelerate what you apparently consider to be inevitable.

| | | Re: sick fox first to valleyforge
thanks-i have just sent an email to the nfws so i'll see what happens.
i live in a village between newcastle and sunderland.
i havent seen the vixen today-though i caught sight of a fox tail disappearing into undergrowth in my garden at around 6am this morning.
now mac
i will continue to monitor her condition when i see her and yes, will contact the appropriate agency if needs be.
as for the rspca-i speak as i find.not long ago i informed them of a local person laying snares and especially aftr numerous sightings of trapped foxes
(cruelty?) was told by them that a.they couldnt interfere on private land since the snares could be legal and b.they werent prepared to come out and check.i am no expert on snares. however i accept they cant be everywhere at one time |

| | | Re: sick fox General advice on how snares should be set can be found at:- Fox Snaring
which also points towards some of the relevant legislation.
If you find that snares are being set or used illegally and the RSPCA are not interested - then it may be worth contacting the Wildlife Liaison Officer in your local police force. I would however suggest that you satisfy yourself that the law is being broken before doing so.

as for the vixen-i havent seen her today but im still trying to find an agency that can help incase she does return.the main problem seems to be acquiring a cage trap but a gentleman from blyth wildlife rescue is helping me to track one down--if its possible.
