| | Help?! Field mouse hurt Okay so last night about half 11 i open my door to find a field mouse running along the step caught by my cat. it had been bleeding and i looked at it i though aww its just its foot to firgure out that it was its guts hanging out.. stupid right?!
So we took it in and it jumped out the box and running about the house. So we shredded up some kitchen roll and put it in the box and hopefully passed away during the night instead of dieing in the cold and the rain outside.
When we woke up and looked my mum said it was still breathing and was tucked up in the kitchen roll. Now ive checked it and its awake and has moved around. The fact is what do i do with a wee field mouse with its guts hanging out.. idk what to feed it and someone already suggest to drop a brick on it and of course me and my mum were like we cant do that.
Any help? will it heal up |

Without seeing the poor mouse it is difficult to make any speculation about whether or not it can survive, but one thing is pretty sure ... it won't unless you get veterinary help for it. It is unlikely to heal from that kind of injury by itself, and is likely to develop further deadly complications from bacterial infection of its wounds.
You are not likely to find a vet surgery open at the weekend, but all vets in the UK by law must provide 24hr emergency cover, so phone your local surgery and find out who is on-call. Some vets may not charge to treat wildlife, while others might ... it's down to their discretion, but if you explain the problem, I'm pretty sure they will offer to help you.
I'm afraid though that the outlook is not too good for the mouse, but even so humane euthanasia (by injection ... not by brick) is preferable to prolonging its suffering. |

By any chance do you think hessilhead would take it, i know there more for the bat, otter, badger and swan or birds hospital but i wouldnt know if they would take such an animal like this. |

| | | Re: Help?! Field mouse hurt I'm pretty sure that like us, the good folk at Hessilhead won't turn away any wild animal in need of care.
It certainly won't do any harm to call them. |

| | | Re: Help?! Field mouse hurt Earlier I Gave them a phone and they said that when a cat once catches it and its hurt quite bad, it basically had it and that we just to kill it. So where hoping that it will die the now before we give it to my nanas husband to do it for us since theres nothing we can do.
Then when my nanas husband came up he said some quite hurtful things saying i should feed it to my cat and i decided to go up to my great papas cottage to released it in the bushes and it ran away near his shed.
Me and my mum thought it was fate cos if i hadn't brought it up my great papa would of had problem defrosting his dinner since someone ate his food that my family member was going to bring for him.
I brought it in from the rain and cold and gave it a warm place instead of freezing to death. What i did, i thought was right i gave it longer to live and its up to nature to decide the wee fella's fate.
thank you anyway :] |
