| | | Bats and Windturbines i was talking to a very learned and interesting guy today who was telling me that not only are turbines a blot on the landscape but they are responsible for the deaths of bats. By creating a change in air pressure they cause the bats to drown by forcing moisture from the air into their lungs or something like that.
Anybody heard of this study or where I can read more

| | | Re: Bats and Windturbines Yes, it's quite true. The type of injury is called Barotrauma. The pressures developed by the blades destruct the organs of the bat as it flies close to or through the revolving blades. It's a different thing to strike damage.
I saw some very impressive thermal image footage taken by the University of Oregon at the BCT conference last year. In one clip a bat actually landed on a blade.
The Eurobats secretariat publish a very useful booklet - No 3 Guidelines for consideration of bats in wind farm projects.
