I have to take issue with pegasus though. The reason that reds are now non-existant in most of England is due to loss of habitat. Ie pine woodlands. Exactly the same reason that there are no longer any pine martins in this country. Their fate would be the same with or without grey squirrels thanks to us.
I believe in places where they still maintain a toe hold - ie Cumbria, Scotland the grey and red often live side by side. I've certainly seen both their. |

Someone told us that we should tap a nut gently on the platform and the squirrels would come running! It worked and within a few minutes of us being there, two of them scampered across the hide roof and onto the platform. One came in through the viewing window and tried to get in our bag of nuts!
