| | | Bloody Slug Pellets!! Over recent seasons, I have been unfortunate enuff to find a number of baby Hedgehogs, horribly bloated & foaming at the mouth as a result of the ingestion of Slug Bait.. Why oh why cant gardeners wake up to this & return to more traditional methods of pest control such as beer traps etc.....
Sad, Sad, Sad...

| | | Re: Bloody Slug Pellets!! That's really sad, I don't use anything at all in my garden, the slugs and snails etc just help themselves to my lovely organic veg garden and flower beds. In turn of course we have lots of wildlife who find them a tasty snack too.

| | | Re: Bloody Slug Pellets!! I hate slug pellets. They are the work of the devil. I used to work in B&Q and would refuse to sell the things - if I failed to convince the customer not to buy them, I'd then reiterate how dangerous they are for wildlife. Didn't sit well with the bosses, as you'd imagine!
Here, on the local news last week a chap was highlighting the dangers as one of his dogs died and the other was made very sick by these blasted things.

| | | Re: Bloody Slug Pellets!! Only last week a colleague commented on the fact that she hadn't seen thrushes for a long time. Guess who didn't know about slug pellets? She was shocked to think that she may be partly responsible. |

| | | Re: Bloody Slug Pellets!! I've only just seen this post. That is so sad WD and such a totally avoidable waste of lives I too wished all harmful insecticides/pesticides were banned for public sale. I signed a petition last year to ban the use of Metaldehyde in slug pellets and recently received the following response: Slugpellets - epetition response | Number10.gov.uk
With regards to the last para in the above link, perhaps it would help if you emailed the Government’s Wildlife Incident Investigation Scheme to report your sad sightings? |

| | | Re: Bloody Slug Pellets!! I live fairly near Chandlers Ford where B&Q's HQ is, and if I found a hedgehog as described above I'd be knocking on their door asking to see the Chairman, pronto, complete with evidence in hand.
Slug pellets are so unnecessary. You can protect your lettuces etc with very little effort.
They're indiscriminate, almost like tiny ecological land-mines. |

| | | Re: Bloody Slug Pellets!! Coffee grounds seem to deter slugs which is fine with me as I will NOT drink that instant crud. I drink about 2 kilo of coffee a week so each month I have enough to replace what the rain washes away. Silver sand also is an irritant to slugs.
