Formby Reds

Is anyone aware of the status of Red Squirrels at Formby, Lancashire? I was told by a local naturalist that the NT weren't doing very well and there were only 1 or 2 Red Squirrels left. I think he said something about the virus which is carried on the fur of the Greys

I've no idea what's going on KT....but a friend has been wanting to take me up there for ages to see if we can find any.

He told me there were good numbers some years ago. Looks like I've left it too late

When I visited 2 years ago I was told by a NT warden there were 200 breeding red squirrels in the woodland and 900-1200 breeding red squirrels in the outer area.

1 or 2 left?? that's shocking

I've always wanted to go and see the Formby Red Squirrels and if that's true then it doesn't look likely now
