| | | At last I've seen one. A little over an hour ago I saw my first otter. It's taken a while but at my favourite haunt of Rooksbury Mill on the river Anton at Andover I saw him. It was only briefly, but there is no doubt that it was an otter. I had been watching water voles for a couple of hours and was just on the way back to the car. The river splits in two before feeding 5 ponds. I was at the second pond when I saw a large bow wave at the entrance to the first. I had no idea what it was but I rushed over. The water was already calming but a trail of bubbles flowed across the surface and then his head popped up and then he dived down arching his back. And that was that. I'm so thrilled, 12:11 on the 28 June will be an all time special moment.

| | | Re: At last I've seen one. Excellent Billy, it's always a special feeling spotting something new and you will always remember it.
I saw my first Otter years ago when I was helping my son rock pooling and we spotted one only yards away eating a fish. I remember it as if it was yesterday.

| | | Re: At last I've seen one. Great news, Billy. I saw otters for only the second time in my life on Mull a couple of weeks ago, and was absolutely thrilled. No doubt you'll be returning to that spot again, then? |

| | | Re: At last I've seen one. Great stuff! I've seen a couple of exotic species of otter in the wild, but sadly not an European Otter. I'm off to Scotland fairly soon, so hope to clinch it then! |

| | | Re: At last I've seen one. Nice one! It's a great moment for sure - I've only ever seen one in the wild and the sheer amount of hours put into watching and watching the same spot is silly! Isle of Arran it was, after about 7 or 8 years of going there - never seen one since though - better keep trying! |

| | | Re: At last I've seen one. It was just a fantastic moment and a sheer piece of luck as well. I also saw 5 water voles this morning, and this evening I spotted my first fox of 2009.
What a wildlife tastic day
