| | | Baby Hedgehog A friend of mine stopped a baby hedgehog from going onto the road and placed it in their back garden. The garden has no escape route and is totally enclosed. Will the baby survive ? It was rescued last night and I have seen it out and about tonight. Does it need to be put out so it can wander further afield or will it be ok enclosed ? |

| | | Re: Baby Hedgehog It was late at night and it has plenty of food and water. I just want to know if it needs its mother to survive. |

| | | Re: Baby Hedgehog Ah... well like I said before if it was late at night then it's fine! Yr neighbour should have just moved it away from the road and let it go on its merry way. How big is the hoglet?

| | | Re: Baby Hedgehog Very small from what I saw, should I suggest it should be released tomorrow or call a local hedgehog rescue centre ? It looked about the size of a small rat ??? |

| | | Re: Baby Hedgehog Sounds small to me. Please contact a rescue centre to get it checked over and if it's healthy then they'll release it. If not then they can care for it until it's big enough to go back to the wild
Where abouts are you?
Try this linkie for rescue centres in the uk ok! http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/map/animal_rescue

| | | Re: Baby Hedgehog Get it to a hedgehog rescue centre if possible. It may not survive if the garden is small, it would have to rely on being supplemented with food. |

| | | Re: Baby Hedgehog Cheshire, it is going to be hard approaching the subject as they are only trying to do the best but I did think the hoglet probably would not survive in an enclosed area. Any tips on how to approach the subject as they are also great animal lovers ??? |

| | | Re: Baby Hedgehog It has a huge supply of water and cat food (meat based) for the night and chicken and cheese so it will not starve, I am just thinking of long term prospects and with it being so small will it know how to feed itself properly. Will its mother be looking for it etc |

| | | Re: Baby Hedgehog No it is best put back into the wild if it's healthy and they certainly shouldn't contain a wild animal
How about you find yr nearest rescue centre and give them the number? Afterall I'm sure they'd want to do the best for the hoglet eh?
If it's eating on it's own (that needs to be confirmed) then it doesn't need it's mum now.
