One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that Hedgehogs are good at climbing, my garden is surrounded by hedges and where the dog dug escape routes down to the river and the neighbours gardens, i had to install wire fencing along the bottom of the hedges, i ended up going round the lot and it was totally dog proof but hedgehogs still managed to get in and they don't make tunnels under the wire, they climb over it. Very adaptable creatures.

As you say Beekeeper, they certainly can climb. When I lived in London I had a hedgehog which I had rescued from some children that were treating it as a football in the local park. Our gardens were separated by chain-link fencing about 5 feet high, and on several evenings found it at the top of the fence. Realising the garden was too small to support it with food I released it into a local woodland area...Bob
