| | | Re: baby grey squirrel essex/london Grey squirrels can be released into certain counties provided a licence is held to do this. We have a licence for grey squirrels, Canada geese & muntjac deer. I am sure there will be a centre in your area that holds such a licence. If you are unable to find one, please pm me & we will try to help.

| | | Re: baby grey squirrel essex/london Who grants the licences Caroline? NE? What criteria have to be satisfied? Presumably with greys it's no populations of reds in the area? What about munties and canadas?
Not loaded questions, it's something I know little about, so I'm curious

James | Yes, Natural England issue them. We can only release in certain counties & animals have to be released within 1km of where they were picked up. I hope that they would never issue a licence in red squirrel habitats! Same for muntjacs & Canada geese, only into named counties. They also check out our facilities before the licences are granted.

James | Why the interest James. I may be wrong but I'm guessing that you are not a grey squirrel lover? Nor muntjacs & Canadas for that matter?

| | | Re: baby grey squirrel essex/london No, I wouldn't describe myself as a lover of any of those. I am involved with wildlife management on a professional basis, as many of you know, and therefore I've got an interest in all wildlife legislation, and since the topic was on the subject, it seemed an ideal opportunity to further my knowledge.
Nothing sinister, I promise!

James | That's fair enough. Apologies for my suspicions. No offence was meant.
