Black wild rabbit?

On my usual drive home, I usually see plenty of wild rabbits on the verges, tonight, I saw an all black one, just wondered if this was a common occurence

I would say it is a reasonably common mutation - back when we had rabbits around us we would see a couple of black ones every year.

We have at least a dozen black ones on our site. It started with just one about 5 or 6 years ago but with black being a dominant gene it is coming out more and more as they breed each year.

A campsite I used to go to near Coombe Martin had more black ones than normal ones.Used to be a colony near me that had a few sandy coloured ones for about ten years,that colour now seems to have died out there.

Yep, black ones are quite common, I've also encountered a white and tan youngster and a whole litter of steel blue young'uns, never saw a blue adult though.

Last year near us we saw a wild rabbit with a white back leg this year theres half a dozen youngsters that are marked like dutch rabbits.
