muskrats

I know the muskrat is'nt british [or is it?[--- When in france we regularly see them in rivers and initially[and naively] we thought they were beavers,otters or even mutant voles! .From what i know of them they were introduced to france for their fur years ago and presumably escapees have bred like--------well like Muscrats.They are also called ragadin[i think] in france and are generally regarded as a pest[though i have seen ragadin pate in south west france--well the french will eat most things that move!]. I wonder if anyone else has seen them in france but more importantly, have any muskrats donned their goggles,smeared themsevles with goose grease and got across the channel?
I don't think they exist in this country but would be happy to be contradicted.

They are native to north america, they came over here for their fur and some escaped. They where eradicated in the UK.
