| | | Mammal identification help needed! New to the forums, first post and all, and I'm aware that this isn't a British mammal but I'm hoping someone one clever on here might be able to help anyway.
This animal was photographed by a friend on their hotel balcony in Sri Lanka. I'm usually good with identification but can't find anything like it anywhere.
Is it just a diseased rat/civet or soemthing or can someone actually tell me what it is? http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img5675.jpg |

| | | Re: Mammal identification help needed! Let's just pretend I saw it in Britain after it climbed off a boat from some foreign land, for example Sri Lanka.
It's been suggested that it's a Palm civet or possibly Golden civet but I just can't find any pictures that really bear much resemblance to it at all.
The ears are much too big and appear completely hairless whereas most civets have smaller and generally "furred" ears. Also the muzzle/nose just seems a bit heavy and not quite the delicate point most civets faces go in to.
Nice forum by the way, been casually lurking for a while but may start posting more now I've finally registered. |
