Just seen my first fox cubs of the year....

....totally unexpected, but there were two of them playing in a field. Put a smile on my face after what has been a difficult couple of weeks. Going back tomorrow with the camera just incase!!

Great to see aren't they, especially when they play fight. Unfortunately the cubs and vixen we had under our garden shed have now gone. We know the fate of one of the cubs though...we sadly found it drowned in our garden pond one morning.
We just hope the other cub and its mother have moved on somewhere safe and away from roads and persecution.

I'm gonna try to spot some tonight. We heard a racket in the garden a few nights ago, more than 1 or 2 foxes so fingers crossed. One question though, I have brought a joint (half leg of new zealand lamb, thought they'd enjoy a treat) Was wondering if I should take some meat of and leave a pile of that with a meaty bone or remove entirely from the bone, smash the bone and scoop out the marrow for them and dispose of the bone. Can they have lamb bones?

Foxes have been known to take unhealthy lambs so I guess it is OK.

As with dogs, they shouldn't be given cooked bones as they can splinter, but raw bones will be fine. I am sure they will enjoy your treat.

I sat out last night to watch them. The dog fox came, sniffed at the food bowl, then looked at the joint. It did a double take and had a nibble. Then he noticed me and went away. It has disappeared this morning. I hope they enjoyed their rare treat

Sorry to hear that you've had a difficult couple of weeks recently, so I'm really pleased that seeing them playing has lifted your spirits. It's such a joy to see something so wonderful like that unfold right in front of you. It's such a privilege to see foxes behaving so carefree Good luck with the pics

I've yet to see any cubs this year, but they are always such a delight especially when they're so young.

I have tried to film the fox but my camcorder's night shot is rubbish, my old tape camcorder was better. Wish it was still alive they wont stay still for a photo, they are very shy. I would love a pic or two myself
