They are all around you - see this picture of a bat dropping on my office window (outside!) today.

The short answer is 25 years experience! But there is nothing else that looks quite like that, and just to be 100% sure I went out after I had photographed it and squashed it with my finger - it crumbled to a fine dust of chewed-up insects.
