| | | Fox Watch I have always wanted to start a fox watch in my small village, and now that the nights are lighter iI thought it would be the perfect time.
I know for a fact there are foxes in the village as I have seen them a few times, but that was before I got into watching and photographing wildlife.
So what I want to know is the best time for looking for this fox?

| | | Re: Fox Watch I don't think you'll have much luck going out looking for them, they come out mostly after dusk but you often see them about during the day, if you have a garden try putting some food down for them, they can smell food from quite a distance, they will eat almost anything but as I've mentioned in other fox posts please dont give them cooked bones, You could start with some eggs ( Raw ) because they would be too big for a rat or magpie to carry away. Or if you've got a bit of woodland near you try putting some food down at the edge of the wood and stand well back and watch, Your best bet would be at dusk, that's when all my foxes appear.
Let us know how you get on |

| | | Re: Fox Watch I must have weird foxes, they haven't touched the egg I put out for them. I find that if I sit out in the garden between 9:30 and 10:30 the foxes will come, but you have to sit very still and totally silent. If you can find where they walk and no one disturbs them, try that. Good luck |

I've got about 6 foxes and there's always a fight over the 2 eggs I put out |

| | | Re: Fox Watch I think they know my car, as soon as I pull up they all rush to the spot where I feed them
Last night 2 of the dog foxes had a fight, they were standing on their hind legs and boxing each other just like kangaroos do |

A few years ago I used to put down any leftovers from our meals, but not only did we get fox pooh deposited frequently, we also found (via a camera) that it regularly urinated on the food dishes and in the bird baths.
Now I'm monitoring hedgehog activity at night, I know a fox visits regularly at various times - 1.37, 3.17 and 20.11 are the times on some photos I've saved, but we also see it wandering across the garden occasionally in broad daylight.
It's obviously not particularly hungry - I'm sure it could easily get at the hog's food if it really wanted, but fortunately it hasn't tried - so far! |

the thing is my foxes have got used to the time I go up to see them because I've been seeing them for about 6 years now and it's become a regular thing.
I think you've just got to be patient and you'll see them sooner or later |

| | | Re: Fox Watch Much may depend on how close the foxes are to you, and what their regular hunting route is. Currently we rarely see a garden fox before midnight (well the trailcam sees them), and usually it's a couple of hours later. On the other hand, early morning (7.00-8.00) is fine for catching sight of foxes in local fields (I'm sure they're out at night as well), and early evening can be a good time. Patience is the key. |
