| | | Re: food for foxes Hi sam thanks for the welcome on the other thread
i would put the bacon out and see if they come for it,
if they smell it and are hungry they may come,
though after observing the foxes round here for many yrs they tend to stick to the same routes,
even though we have stopped putting food out they still come through a hole they have dug under one fence and go out through another fence
good luck |

Lets hope it was a Fox that ate the Bacon! It could have been a Rat, Badger, Cat or even an Hedgehog. We all have our fingers crossed that you will see a fox. Roy

| | | Re: food for foxes The food will go if its left. Hopefully foxes, but as others have said it could equally be cats, rats, hedgehogs, birds (magpies and seagulls clean up here if foxes miss anything). A reasonable test for a fox is to leave an egg. Most other animals will leave it alone (too large). Small amounts of dog food are fine.
If you are watching from outside, keep very still. Some foxes are comfortable with human presence (as long as you're still/quiet). Others simply won't come anywhere near. My current garden foxes are impossible to watch (they lurk out of sight if I'm in the garden), quite unlike previous populations who would happily spend the afternoon in the garden while we were tidying up. At the moment I'm monitoring their activity with a trail cam (hence the confidence about magpies and gulls taking any food).
Don't over feed. They are very good at coping, and need to stay active hunters. But good luck |
