Bats in flight?

Hiya

I'm on honeymoon at the Tranquil Otter in the Lake District (and loving it!)

I've just been outside and spent 10 minutes watching small flying "creatures" in the air. They're very fast and seem to change direction at random and I'm wondering if they are bats? I saw about half a dozen at the same time and they were flying high, low and some appeared to be chasing each other.

All the other wildlife here makes a racket, and these are silent, making me think they might be bats. Am I likely to be right?

I think they probably are bats. I had one flying in broad daylight last year and couldn't get a clear shot as they are so quick and agile and as you say, change directions every few seconds.
