Dont buy swarovski if you love animals

a keen collector of swarovski crystal, i will not buy it anymore because i found out they also make rifle scopes for shooting animals, called SWAROVSKI OPTIK

so on one hand they make these beautiful animal figures and on the other they make a weapon to kill them with

if you would like to complain to them heres the website, contact details are at the bottom of page Swarovski Crystal - Welcome

thankyou for reading this, now please pass it on to family and friends.
i doubt if many people know about this.

Re: Dont buy swarovski if you love animals

Hi squeek
You are quite right about the product range of Swarovski including rifle scopes.
Many of the other leading maufacturers of fine optics also manufacture them.
I have three telescopic sights of different makes that I use for shooting including a Swarovski 6X32 (European model) that I use on my Anshutz. It is way ahead of the other two in terms of optical definition and light gathering capabilities and I can recommend the brand unreservedly.
Having had a look at the range of "beautiful animal figures" by Swarovski, I am quite prepared to favour the aesthetics and practicality of my riflescope over the crystal shelf adornments.
I also doubt that many of the animals and bird species made by Swarovski would register in a shooters conciousness and depending on the exact species represented, some of them may be protected rarities.
I am minded to write to Swarovski and tell them what a superb product they make and how well it has performed over the last twelve years or so. But there again, they probably know that anyway.

Goodness if people have to kill animals at distance for work to to put food on the table, I hope they have the best kit they can afford so it is done as cleanly as possible!

Re: Dont buy swarovski if you love animals

Hi Gill
Telescopic sights increase the opportunity of a good clean kill, the shot is not always taken at a distance but the magnification allows the point of aim to be far more exact than with open iron sights. They are also useful in failing light due to the light gathering capability.

I do not wish to open another hunter versus conservationist issue, my rebuttle of squeeks post was hasty but as I use the item and brand in question regularly in my professional life, I felt obliged to table an early day motion!

Re: Dont buy swarovski if you love animals

By this reasoning, no one should buy cameo clothing or anything from the Army Surplus (the latter designed to make it easier to kill people!). Also, Swaros produce some of the the topline optics (scopes and bins) for birdwatching as do Zeiss and Nikon both companies traditionally and still producing hunting optiks. By this reasoning, no one should buy a Nikon camera either!

I use Swaro EL binoculars for birdwatching and they are by far the best pair of binos I've had the fortune to own.

I don't mean to offend, but the ''advice'' posted in the first post of this thread is both unrealistic and naive.

Condemn the hunter if you must but the optik companies are simply producing products to suit a wide range of interests. The fact that they also have toplines in birdwatching and astronomy gear now rather than just their traditional hunting optiks or optics for the armed forces, is a cause to celebrate - it shows there is an increasing willingness amongst the general public to spend ££s on optics for birdwatching etc, in itself an indication of the growing appreciation of wildlife for it's own sake.

(Of course if you just want little glass ornaments on your shelf rather than a good view of the real thing that's a different matter. Lots of non optic companies produce glass/crystal ornaments, you can always shop elsewhere - but there are few companies producing optics of the quality that Nikon, Zeiss and Swaro do!)

If you really want the creme de la creme of crystal ornaments, I'd suggest you try Lalique!

Agreed.

I hope you don't own anything to do with Daewoo- television, DVD players, Cars...because they make submachine guns for South Korea.

Re: Dont buy swarovski if you love animals

yep i'd concur with nick and picidae too - virtually every optics manufacturer who makes telescopes, binoculars, or camera lenses also makes rifle scopes or lenses therefore. So by the OPs logic we shouldnt buy any form of binoculars, telescopes or cameras.

Camoflage clothing was all developed with either military or hunting applications in mind so thats all out too

nightscopes were developed for military applications so they are a no no

wildlife watching is going to be a bit difficult if we adhere to this "advice" ....

Shame they've never seen fit to install a submachine gun in one of their cars, I'd certainly buy one of those...

I resent the implication that we are not animal lovers just because we have a realistic view of the countryside and habitat management and also of how the consumer culture works.

I would wager that those who have commented on this thread so far have a better chance of having a genuine apreciation of wildlife than those whose apreciation comes from collecting crystal ornaments.

If you really want to live a life that doesnt involve causing any harm to any form of wildlife you will have to go back to living in a cave and gathering nuts and seeds as any form of consumption or modern life causes some harm to the natural environment.

for example that computer you are using - where do you think the materials to make it came from ? or the electricty to run it ( one of the key causes of decline in the lowland gorilla population is habitat destruction to mine minerals used to make circuit boards for computers and mobile phones)
