About 200 farmers are being consulted, but that leaves everyone else with as little information as possible. Legislation to force entry is being drafted and will have public consulation but don't know who is regarded as the "public" yet. Could just be more dairy farmers. Reading the local papers, some dairy farmers/NFU officials and the local politicians are all over the moon about it. No doubt they are imagining more rural votes.
Judging by the local moods I haven't met anyone that is happy, including farmers who want to keep their badgers. I think there will be surprise from the Welsh Assembly how many local people are upset. Let alone outside the area. Although of course, some are delighted too.
Someone told me they had heard on the radio that "the cull would be good for tourism". | This cull could be detrimental for Welsh Tourism, I for one will certainly not be visiting Wales for my holidays in the future.

| | | Re: Welsh Badger Cull Trial is Going Ahead I wonder how The National Trust view the cull in Wales as some places offer badger watching evenings?
Will they allow a cull on their land, will it be law? and what if they are able to refuse access?
I am sure many visitors will be upset at the thought of this happening as they walk around their favourite haunts.

I am sure many visitors will be upset at the thought of this happening as they walk around their favourite haunts. | I think I read somewhere, hobble, and can't find it now, that the National Trust will allow it. I think it was on a farming paper site. Hope it's not so.
Some of the West Wales Wildlife trust reserves are likely to be in the killing area. Like the Pengelli forest, which is ancient woodland. The whole of the Teifi and tributaries are sssi's and there are many other wildlife sites. There are badger watching at the Wildlife Centre near Cardigan. Pembrokeshire National Park, Forestry Commission, and holiday cottages advertise badger watching too.
