| | | Red Deer in the Highlands Last Spring I had the opportunity to watch Red Deer in the highlands and I was struck by the incredible beauty of the habitat but also understood how hard it was on the animals. Fortunately I went out with a very knowledgable guide and he got me very close to a number of different Stags. I was quite cautious as they can be awkward but it was outside of the rut and less at risk.
This old Stag shows just how hard the winter had been and how much condition they loose through the winter.
To demonstrate the sheer beauty of Animals in their own habitat this group of Young stags look absolutely right against a backdrop of mountains and a loch and an older stag is at home in a mountain wood.
In comparison check out the size and body shape of these Woburn Deer admittely at the begining of the Winter but the cosseted Woburn Deer won't loose condition through the winter. The first is a old male and the second a young stag after its first rut.
