| | | Badger cull rumours It seems that there will be announcement from the Welsh Assembly soon.
Monmouthshire mentioned as a possible area. Although could also be south or south west wales. |

But look out for news...
There is a possible announcement by Welsh Ass Government this afternoon. Press later on today perhaps if so. |

Monmouthshire mentioned as a possible area. Although could also be south or south west wales. | I would not have thought a specific cull is necessary in Wales after a depressing car journey through the area a few years ago. I have never seen so many dead animals - all badgers - along various roads. The conclusion is one of - the badger population is so dense in the area that more are killed, Welsh roads are busier overnight, someone is killing the animals already and dumping them by the side of the road (as was suggested by a badger group member at the Bird Fair a few years ago). |

| | | Re: Badger cull rumours Farmers have long killed badgers here. Now they will be able to do it legitimately for a change.
Area chosen is 200 kilometres of North Pembs. I'm on the edge of this area, just wondering if "in" or out.
A beautiful holidaying area, most income is from tourists, surprised the WAG went for it. |

| | | Re: Badger cull rumours No, the government (welsh) will have a licence to do it for them. Taxpayer will pay (English taxpayer mostly as money is from DEFRA). Shooting and trapping for at least 5 years. Subordinate legislation needed first to set the cull up. |

| | | Re: Badger cull rumours There has been a massive rise in Badger numbers in the Cardigan area in recent years and they represent the majority of road kills locally. They can be difficult to see at night and many of the side roads have high banks and no grass verges so that the animals appear in front of you with little or no warning.
No motorist in his right mind runs over a Badger, the damage to the vehicle can be considerable. The corpses are normally removed by our council and there have been no reports to suggest that the animals died from other than vehicular impacts.

Roy. | Why this then from 30 Sept 2008? BBC News
Carwyn James who farms organic cattle in Cilgerran, Pembrokeshire, told the programme: "The assembly government has been talking about the cull for long enough.
"The cost of the epidemic now is astronomical. They really have to do something now."
"More and more badgers are being killed illegally. Farmers are losing patience and badgers are being killed in this area every week." | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
