Most often seen in either bad weather or early morning, near woodland/scrubland, eg by fishermen.
This print was near the cricket club (Saddleworth) at Friezland, next to the river.
I have also seen prints under the road bridge in greenfield, where they have built the Kingfisher pub - I think they must use the river there for nocturnal movement to get past Chew valley road.
They have been seen in Uppermill too.
Just keep watching and hope for luck!
Cheers
Ken | Thanks for the info Ken, that's another one for my list of species to see in Saddleworth, will keep an eye out.

| | | Re: roe deer print pt 2 Hello Ken
I have just seen a wild roe deer this morning at 07:25am 07/09/2010 on the bridlepath by the side of the Saddleworth school, i was quite shocked and wasn't even aware that there were any deer in the Saddleworth area, a quick search on google revealed that you had seen this print but also there have been a number of sightings up by Saddleworth golf club the green keeper produces a newsletter and the sighting dates etc are on there see the link below. http://www.saddleworthgolfclub.co.uk...ugust_2010.pdf
Just wish I had my phone to get a picture as it stood on the bridlepath looking down quite a picture it was!
Quite shocked there in Saddleworth |

| | | Re: roe deer print pt 2 I would think its quite safe to assume Roe deer are found throughout britain. For such a large animal they can be very secretive. They are not just restricted to wooded areas. The tall vegetation of a river bank with scattered trees would support them. |

| | | Re: roe deer print pt 2 Hi Matthew, thanks a lot for that info, great to see them!
Yes, its quite common to see them ,but normally only if you are night fishing etc etc and are up at the crack of dawn.
From my work, i get quite a lot of reports in the area so its not unusual (tom jones) but even so, you are one of the blessed ones.................
They have been in Saddleworth, Stalybridge and environs well over 6 years as far as I can make out - I suspect they have moved in from Cheshire/Derbyshire generally.
I have also seen evidence of them moving along the river Tame and the railway lines, as 'green' corridors.
Last week saw a bed for two or three in Swalows wood, near Glossop, nicely flattened grass and muddied trails leading up to them - all signs to look out for.
Thanks a lot again for letting me know.
Ken

| | | Re: roe deer print pt 2 Deer spotted on Larkhill in the last weeks towards dobcross end, also four buzzards, one had a young rabbit.
Buzzards were also picking up clumps of grass flying up then dropping and diving for it? Is this usual behaviour? (ive never had the chance to watch them before) They have been over larkhill every sunny afternoon for the past few months at first only one seen, now four at the same time.
I know they are very common in a lot of the UK but personally ive not seen them before in saddleworth before this year. I love the sound thy make |

| | | Re: roe deer print pt 2 Have just come across a 'Roe Doe' on Ladcastle Road, Uppermill. It was on the sharp bend where there is a small wood of larches. It jumped straight across the road in front of the car! Have found hoof prints in our garden before in the snow. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
