| | | Mustelid scat - but which mustelid?
The coin's a 1p piece, 2cm across. I didn't take a sniff (I know I should have but I was with a friend and I didn't want to come across as weird!) |

Theres that penny again! I agree likely a Mustelid, the bottom scat looks as though it is made up of rabbit fur, and they are too small for Weasel. Two on a particular spot suggests a confident animal scent marking, my first guess would be Pole Cat followed by stoat and Mink (if close to water).

| | | Re: Mustelid scat - but which mustelid? It was the twistiness and the length that made me think mustelid. The hedgehog poo I've seen is straight (I mean it might have a bend or two but isn't twisted).
The location was a Moss - flat, marshy peatland with very small narrow ditches running across it.
Nick, Hedge Witch - I've just inhaled my tea, thanks to you! |

I would say stoat or weasel, doesn't look tarry enough for mink. But you should have given it a big sniff.

Well without a "nose" id, possibly stoat but it looks a bit too thick in places so can't be sure. Fingers crossed though that it isn't mink

| | | Re: Mustelid scat - but which mustelid? Hi there
Stoat / weasel scats have a musty smell, so not that strong or really unpleasant, mink is so disgusting - a bit like rotting flesh, yuk!
