(Apart from the size estimate! But no more off in size than a rat would be) They need little depth of water to survive, build holes next to water, have what look like naked tails when wet and come in quite pale brown colours. | | | Re: Unidentified mammal A few years back I saw two rats climbing out of a pond,at first glance I thought they were a couple of large dachshounds !,they were seriously large rats !.Used to have a psycho cat that caught a rat bigger than himself,so yeah,rats can get BIG ! |

| | | Re: Unidentified mammal Thanks for all the suggestions- what a great forum. There was nothing rat like in the way it moved or the shape of it's body. But I am wondering if it was a monster rat after all. The tail looked wet rather than naked but it wasn't thick enough to be an otter. I will keep looking. There is the most extraordinary wildlife in the wood because it has just been left for 30 yrs. |
