Rob - that's a thought that's often crossed my mind.

A badger print looks so much like a bears with the long claws/nails and so unlike the rest of the mustelids that I wonder if ........

It's the length of the nails that clinch it for me. In my posting of 7:35 pm it's not clear but if the upper image is clicked to enlarge it, I have shown the length of the nail impresses and they equal the individual toe pads. Otter nails do not do that despite how many toes are shown.
