I guess it must be quite hard for little mice to keep warm and find food when there is heavy snow.

| | | Re: Mouse or Rat? A word of warning - mice can do a lot of damage in a car by chewing through wiring looms, etc. Even this little fellow has brought in leaves which can block heater ducts etc. If it has not been able to find food for a week, I suggest you check your car very carefully!
Lovely set of pictures, by the way! |

Ooooh don't remind me.A close friend of mine lost her car to a mouse. It chewed through all the wires built a nest and lived in a 5 star way until the mechanic found it.Too late the car was a write off and then it was pointed out that it and Rat damage is common in semi and rural areas. |

| | | Re: Mouse or Rat? Thanks for the welcome and posts guys. We had about a foot and a half of snow over the last few weeks and other than the seeds we put out for birds I am guessing there was not much else for this little chap to eat. Have checked the car and all wires seem intact!
It does look a little bedragled but I did not find he/she until after I had been out for a run in the car and due to melt water, through a lot of flooding. Poor thing must have wondered what was going on after having made a home in the car for 2 weeks without being disturbed!!

| | | Re: Mouse or Rat? I often wondered what would happen to little creatures holed up in engines once the vehicle got moving again! I imagined them getting too hot and thus jumping overboard, probably to be squashed beneath the wheels. Your little chap was probably lucky to come out of the ordeal with just a soaking. Obviously they initially clamber up inside attracted to the warmth of the cooling down engine, not realising this is not a safe nor static home!
Welcome to WAB by the way, and keep posting
