I have just noticed this thread, thats a really good find well done. As woodman has asked I would be interested to know if this is a new population.
Have you picked up any feeding signs? as you should be able to differentiate between the mice by how they have eaten any nuts. i appreciate these were in bramble but I would definetly check any nearby Hazlenut trees.

Yes this would be the first record for this site. There are other recent records from a wood about 1.5 mile south of this site, though they are isolated from each other somewhat.
Apparently they are accepting the record from this nest. To be honest i would want a little more evidence than just this nest because of the probably Harvest Mouse? I've done some nut searches but have drawn a blank, all have been Vole, Woodmice (we have both species) and Squirrel.
The area is where i work at Llandegfedd reservoir. I've just recently put out Nest tubes...bought and made by myself, also nest boxes, so hopefully time will tell for certain. |

Your find is really exciting and I guess we are all jealous of your opportunity to prove either of the key species. Your tactic using nest boxes is clearly a good one but unless you are licensed you will not be able to check the boxes without a Dormouse handling licence.
