| | | Squirrels Okay. I know many people hate squirrels, but I adore the little critters, even if they wreck my bird feeders blah blah blah! But now I have a problem, they seem to have set up residence in the eves of our house, and by the stash of walnuts we found in the loft last night, we're pretty sure they have had a few parties in there too . Funny thing is, we only hear them just as we're going to bed, they're running around, scratching etc etc. We think we know where they get in (there is a roof tile that has been slightly lifted up) but as we have never actually seen them in the roof, we're not sure how many there are, or how to get rid of them.
Being the softie I am I would gladly let them stay , but with all the electrics and our water tank up there, I am bit worried that their mischief may end up causing us some severe problems. I noticed that something has been gnawing at the lagging around the water pipes.
So any suggestions as to how to kindly evict them? I have reliably been informed that the females will most likely be pregnant now, so was advised to send them on their way sooner rather than later.
Any foolproof methods anyone????? |

| | | Re: Squirrels Yes, pretty sure they are squirrels. My neighbour came round last week to tell me he saw one getting under the tile. Thing is I want to make sure they're all out before blocking up the entrance..

| | | Re: Squirrels Well we went in the loft yesterday which is when we found the walnuts. Last night there were only a few noises, so not sure if maybe they know we have been up there, hence were keeping quiet. Guess we will wait to see whether they get up to their antics tonight, and if so I'll camp in the loft to scare them!!!! |

they are another with a bad press, referred to as tree rats - thats very unfair.
So much pleasure to the eye falling foul of the lunatic fringe or those who dont manage their own or the squirrels environment, or their own expectations, properly.

| | | Re: Squirrels Hi,
I've had practice in evicting squirrels to save them from nasty people The only real way is to see if you can work out how many maybe in there...then wait and watch for them to come out and then when they are out block up the hole. Keep a bowl of water up there for a few days and a bowl of peanuts, that way if the peanuts haven't been touched you know they are all out and can permanently block the hole. If not you have to repeat the process! This can be like waiting for paint to dry. Don't bother with live traps this wont work unless they are baby squirrels. Good luck! I'm not feeling well at the moment so if this doesn't make sense please pm me! |
