It is a long way, but I recently read a book about the Battle of Fulford, which reckoned the Vikings got a large fleet of longboats to very close to where the seal was seen on tidal flow. The description was very dramatic, describing each boat travelling on the wave at quite high speeds (can't remember the exact numbers, and I don't want to quote silly ones), so perhaps one Seal?

Seals ( both Grey + more often Common) turn up in the Thames, often far from the sea as there is plenty of fish. I guess the biggest potential problem is the possible accidents with boats.
