hay. | Not sure if the little hoggie would want to sleep on your savings . (Sorry couldn't resist).
On a more serious note, 9oz. is very small for a hog to be out and about at this time of year.
You might find some useful info on this thread: - baby hedgehog found need info

| | | Re: hedgehog help Hi
I am looking after three at the moment and you could feed them on any of the following:-
Dried mealworms
Small cat biscuits such as Iams
Tinned cat/kitten food such as Hills AD
Hedgehog food such as Spikes Dinner/ Wildthings / Rowena's etc etc
Small pieces of chopped chicken
Scrambled eggs made without milk/salt or butter
Plenty of fresh water as hedghogs drink a lot.
Please don't give them bread / milk as it gives them stomach problems.
If you are going to over-winter them you could keep them in a large crate with plenty of bedding such as newspaper and hay and if you can a seperate area for them to eat / use bathroom. I find mine have made themselves huge nests out of the dried leaves and hay provided.
9oz is about 250g as is very very small to be out this time of year. The recommended minimum weight for hiberantion is 650g - the bigger the better.
Was this little guy out in the day or the night - if it was in the day then he is ill and will need attention by a vet asap as he could have pnemonia.
At that weight I suggest that you take him to your local hedgehog carer to be checked over , he will probably need to be wormed and maybe given some antibiotics.
I strongly recommend the following websites The Hedgehog Forums - support website for people looking after hedgehogs. British Hedgehog Preservation Society BHPS - will be able to give you a list of carers in your area.
Hope this helps. Gill |
